Als faillissementsmedewerker ondersteunt Kars de curator in nagenoeg alle werkzaamheden die bij een efficiënte afwikkeling van het faillissement komen kijken. Denk hierbij aan verkoop van activa, inventariseren van de schulden, voorbereiding van de ontslagprocedure, incasseren van debiteuren en boekhoudkundige onderzoeken. 

Kars is vaak het eerste aanspreekpunt voor bij een faillissement betrokken partijen, zoals schuldeisers, geïnteresseerden voor een doorstart, werknemers, het UWV en de Belastingdienst. Daarnaast onderhoudt Kars de contacten met de Rechtbank. Door zijn ervaring als credit controller en boekhouder verzorgt Kars niet alleen de (financiële) verslaglegging van het faillissement, maar wordt deze kennis ook gebruikt in het administratief onderzoek. Deze ondersteunende en administratieve rol komt ook privé van pas als vrijwilliger bij Humanitas thuisadministratie.
